Around 50 automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they stated in a statement.
Police state they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a individual noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish substance.
The substance had been applied in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Officers then located many other marked automobiles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under regulations prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement say initial examinations indicate the fluid was probably human blood.
"At present there remains no lead as to where it came from; officials are not yet cognizant of any physical harm in association with the incident," they added.
City officials said they were trying "to solve the mystery" and have requested to the residents for information.
A high-ranking official stated the incident made him without words and had to be solved promptly.
"This act affects the core of Hanau and revives the pain of the extremist attack half a decade ago," he posted on a platform, recalling the death of nine victims by a shooter targeting individuals of immigrant origin in February 2020.
